Courtesy of ITTF It was the successful revenge for Jeong, who lost in three straight games in the Boys’ Team final against Xu. |
The way to the title was not easy at all for Jeong Sang Eun. The Korean beat France’s Abdel-Kader Salifou, top seeded Song Shichao from China, compatriot Lee Sang Su and another player from China, Xu Ruifeng, in the final.
Spectacular Rallies in the Fifth Game
The final started like the match in the team’s event ended. Xu was dominant and led quickly with two games to nil. Jeong Sang Eun then fought back and equalized to 2-2.
The fifth game was most likely the crucial one in this match. The rallies were very spectacular and the fans celebrated each point. Jeong Sang Eun played his very best in this period and took the fight more and more out of his Chinese opponent.
Only One Chinese on the Boys’ Podium
A comfort for Xu Ruifeng is that he was the most successful player in Palo Alto with two gold and two silver medals.
Xu was also the best Chinese in the Boys’ Singles event and the only Chinese on the podium. Korea’s Jeong Sang Eun (winner) and the bronze medalists Lee Sang Su (Korea) and Mikhail Paykov (Russia) were the other boys winning a medal.
