Saint Peters, MO – This tournament drew 128 players from nine different states…Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, and Tennessee. The Saint Peters Table Tennis Club (SPTTC) would like to thank the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) and Butterfly for sponsoring its second tournament. Twelve Butterfly tables filled a spacious gym with wood floors, high ceilings, and great lights. White Butterfly balls were used for the 456 matches that were contested over a two-day weekend.

Prize money totaling $1,200 was given away to winners of specific events. Lukasz Fita, from Chicago, dominated the tournament by winning both the Giant A Singles RR on Saturday as well as the Open Singles event on Sunday (pictured below). He only lost one game throughout the tournament. Second place in the Giant A Singles RR went to Mark Nordby. Raymond Pang, seeded 7th out of 8 players, won the Giant B Singles RR. Drew Gustafson, seeded number 1 in the Giant C Singles RR, held true to form by beating all competitors. Kiran Kapoor, seeded in the middle of his group, outlasted the others to claim the Giant D Singles RR. Chiharu Mori went undefeated in the Giant E Singles RR to claim the 1st place trophy. Brandon French, traveling from Lima, Ohio, took the honors for the Giant F Singles RR championship by going undefeated. Chris Brown, last year’s Novice Singles winner, bested the other players to gain the rights of Giant G Singles RR champion this year. Joshua Laird, the top seed in the Giant H Singles RR, lost only one match in five games to win the top honors.

The tournament desk was run by Randy and Kelly Kendle with the help of numerous volunteers throughout the weekend. The draws and scores were tracked on the computer and the updated USATT ratings were adjusted just five days later.
The host school, Francis Howell Central High School, held its own event in which avid table tennis player, Tom Whelan (teacher), was eventually crowned champion.
The results of the rated events on Sunday and the doubles competition are shown below.
