2010 First Youth Olympic Games: Set for Singapore, Peruvian a Beneficiary of 1st Youth Olympic Games

The torch has yet to be lit to mark the official start of the 1st Youth Olympic Games but event before competition begins, table tennis has benefited from the innovation.

Two table tennis players have received Singapore Youth Olympic Scholarships and will study and train at the Singapore Sports School starting in 2011.

In addition to Malaysia’s Angeline Tang, Peru’s Janina Nieto has also been awarded a Youth Olympic Scholarship.

Janina Nieto was a member of the 2009 ITTF World Hopes Team being present at the training camps and tournaments held in the Chinese city of Chengdu and in the French town of Schiltigheim.

Ambitious
“She is very ambitious, she likes to win”, explained Zita Pidl, the ITTF World Hopes Team Manager. “Also, she has a young coach on her side, Alan Blas who is the younger brother of Peru’s leading player, Bryan Blas.”

En Route to Germany
Bryan has just flown from Lima in Peru to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil en route to Germany where he is about to start a new experience; he will compete in the German Bundesliga.

Janina will move with her mother to Singapore in January 2011.
