Invitations Accepted for Inaugural Volkswagen Cup

All eight men and all eight women invited, to play in the first ever Volkswagen Cup, have confirmed participation.

The tournament, to be held in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou on Monday and Tuesday March 29-30, 2010, has a truly international flavor; a maximum of one player per country in each event being accepted.

Furthermore there is the staggering total prize fund of US$500,000 is on offer and a Volkswagen Tiguan saloon car plus US$50,000 awaits the winners of the Men’s and Women’s Singles event.

Line Up
The mouth watering line up for the two day tournament is:

Men:
Ma Long (China), Timo Boll (Germany), Vladimir Samsonov (Belarus), Michael Maze (Denmark), Jun Mizutani (Japan), Joo Se Hyuk (Korea), Werner Schlager (Austria) and Cheung Yuk (Hong Kong).

Women:
Liu Shiwen (China), Feng Tianwei (Singapore), Kim Kyung Ah (Korea), Jiang Huajun (Hong Kong), Wu Jiaduo (Germany), Liu Jia (Austria), Li Jiao (Netherlands)

Spectacular Pairs
Meanwhile for the innovative Spectacular Pairs event where pairs have two sessions of three minutes to provide exciting table tennis and are marked on consistency, quality and entertainment; four pairs have confirmed their participation.

They are Koji Matsushita and Hiroshi Shibutani (Japan), Jörgen Persson and Ulf Carlsson (Sweden), Jean-Michel and Philippe Saive (Belgium), Krisztina Toth (Hungary) and Renata Strbikova (Cech Republic).
