Question: "I need clarification with this ITTF rule:
"4.3 A side of the blade used for striking the ball shall be covered with either ordinary pimpled rubber, with pimples outwards having a total thickness including adhesive of not more than 2mm, or sandwich rubber, with pimples inwards or outwards, having a total thickness including adhesive of not more than 4mm."
Does this mean that rubbers that are more than 2.2mm sponge thickness (max) are illegal? With the stricter rules with equipment I want to make sure that my rubbers are not illegal.
Thanks."

Question: "I am after a faster blade, with less dwell time than the Photino. I am a 2-winged looper, who loops from mid-distance, as well as close-to-table. I was considering the Amultart (Butterfly), Jun Mizutani, Timo Boll T5000, and the Fukuhara Ai Special (Butterfly). I would like to keep Tenergy, although suggestions will be considered. Thanks"

Question: "I am an intermediate player. I have tried many blades and other store bought uses, however i feel that it is about time I bought my own set up. I am a shakehand player who would rather wait for my opponent to mess up, however I LOVE smashing the HECK out of a well placed ball. Can you please make some recommendations? I am not looking to spend TOOO much money. Thanks"

Question: "What would u recommend for a penhold looper? I want a light paddle which has both speed and control, a forehand that is made for loopers and will last me a long amount of time, and a backhand rubber for re looping because I want to start the reverse penhold backhand. What butterfly paddle/ rubbers do you suggest?"

Question: "How many layers do I have to use when I want to glue my rubbers (Tenergy 05). If I use two layers, my blade will have more speed and spin?"
Answer: Hello Vlad, the current rules require that only water-based glues, such as our Free Chack, be used. These types of glues do not add additional speed to the rubber. The good news is that our Tenergy Rubbers where design to produce maximum speed and spin with out help from the glue. So when assembling your rubbers to the blade just one medium coat of glue will do fine. |

Question: "I always have problem dealing with spinny serve balls so I decided to change backhand from Tackifire C to Super Anti. Question: "Hi. I have been playing for a year with a club, using a recreational Butterfly racket (the Tensai).
I am still very much a developing player and I am looking at buying my first Pro racket.
My forehand loop is my strongest point, with anything on my backhand the weakest.
I was thinking about getting a SA-01 or a Primorac with Sriver 2.1 for my forehand and Sriver 1.5 for my backhand.
Would this be a good place to start for someone in my position hoping to become an all-around player?"

Question: "Hello, my question has to do with Butterfly's High Tension rubbers. I use an allround style of play with mainly looping and counterlooping as my attack. I also fequently use both very slow and very fast blocks to manipulate the movement of my opponents. My blade is the BollTricarbon, and the rubbers I have been using lately are Sriver (2.1mm) and Mark V (2.0mm). They have both been amazing, but I want to try out some of the High Tension rubbers. My question is: Which of the High Tension rubbers would you say best matches the blade I use and also my style of play?"

Question: "I have been using this blade for about 2 years. But I still have a problem to adjust with this blade, maybe about the rubber. I am an all round player, I like to attack with a loop, and I need more control for my backhand side. Any recommendations? Maybe about the blade or rubber? Thanks."

Name: James
Current Blade: Kong Linghui Special
Current Forehand: Sriver EL
Current Backhand: Sriver EL
Question: "I am pleased with my current rubber, but would be tempted to switch to Sriver G2 FX - IF - it could provide a slight bit more action on my loops while retaining general similarity of arc. I would not wish to change if G2 FX was not at least as good as EL from mid-distance, because that is where I am most comfortable.
If G2 FX is lighter, that would be a plus. I use Max because I enjoy being able to spin the ball with even the slightest motion (I am a professional in another sport where the ball is spun with great speed) even though I am sometimes punished by my opponents spin while receiving serve. I still think it's worth it because I play for fun, but perhaps you will have an opinion on someone using Max rubber that is under 2000 in match strength. I anticipate you will take speed glue out of the equation, which I never did anyway.
Many thanks... "
Answer: Hi James, I don’t recommend Max thickness of any rubber unless they are at a higher level or headed in that direction and physically strong; controlling opponent’s speed and spin is harder although you can impart more of the same if you have the skill.

Question: "1. Why have you stopped listing the re-glue effect?
2. Do I lose anything else beside speed from not using the speed glue, such as control?
3. I'm considering using TENERGY 05 to replace the CATAPULT on M.MAZE or to replace Bryce on Timo Boll Spirit (I like to keep the CATAPULT on my SCHLAGER LIGHT). What do you think? Which other of my blades do you suggest to use TENERGY 05?"

Question: "I am a tennis player that use to play ping pong. I had big strokes and swing a ping pong racket like a tennis racket. I did well in US Nationals back in the mid 90's but haven't played since due to tennis. What model rackets should I consider using? I hit lots of spin with the forehand and backhand and also block a lot of shots. Thanks"

Question: "I've been using Sardius blade for the past few years now. Since my game is not as fast as before, I'm thinking of changing the blade minus the hard feel. What blades do you recommend? One other thing, my backhand is stronger than my forehand, every time I tried to change the backhand rubber to a thicker sponge, the balls usually goes out. Any recommendations?"

Question: "I am looking to get back into table tennis for fitness and fun and am thinking about upgrading my racket. I'm an all-round player and like to top spin a lot with my forehand. My back hand is fairly defensive and I will typically use it to block or chop and occasionally attack with a top spin loop or flick. As a result I typically play from the middle to the left corner of the table to favour my forehand. I am comfortable playing close to the table and off the table. As I am only playing recreationally I don't want to worry about ongoing cost or maintenance and as a result do not want to have to re-glue or use speed glue/speed glue rubber etc.or other expensive, high maintenance equipment. I was thinking about getting an Arylate/Carbon blade and hope that you can recommend a rubber combination and blade that would suit my playing style and ease of use requirements?
Thanks"

Question: "I'm a dominant backhand player and use Cermet to attack. My forehand, though weaker, works fairly well with Challenger Attack. I only flip the blade occasionally.
I want more looping spin on my backhand attacks and slightly more spin on my forehand/pips out. I'm considering Bryce FX or Tackifire-C to attack and Raystorm to replace my Challenger Attack? Does this make sense?"

Question: "I have been playing for a little over two years and in that time I have gone from a 1000 rating to 1900. I like the feel of my racket and rubbers but I think I am lacking a little speed. Do you recommend changing my racket or rubber/sponge? I like a soft feel. Do you have any recommendations on whether I should change anything and if so what would you recommend changing to?"

Question: "I like an aggressive looper. Even though I know I have to wait the ball to reach the top of the bounce before looping, I find I am always too rush to loop, especially in a tournament. Is there any way or exercise I can do to be patient and not rush to loop the ball."
Answer: This is a classic problem, players reaching, rushing or "jumping" on the ball instead of timing it. To solve this, it can be as simple as working on your footwork or more complex because often, this maybe character related. First, try fixing this by focussing on your footwork; if you learn/train to move automatically in position, you are less likely to jump on the ball. There is a sequence of action for this, by using the two step method; first the anticipation of where the ball is coming, you move towards the ball setting your feet, you pause and measure the ball, then you make contact and repeat the process. You need to train for this so it becomes automatic. In training, you can think about the technical process of execution, but not during the match. You train so that you react without thinking. |

Current Blade: Briskier Light
Current Forehand: Sriver EL
Question: "Hi, I am a J-pen player who is a offensive minded looper/driver. Sriver is just a little too slow for my style of play. I'm looking for a
rubber that maintains a soft to medium feel and that provides more speed and spin than Sriver EL. I am looking at Bryce FX and Sriver G2 FX. Which rubber would you recommend for me? Feel free to include any other rubber suggestions :) I also wish to adopt a style of play similar to Kim Taek Soo or Ryu Seung Min."

Current Blade: Matsushita Pro Special
Current Forehand: Tackiness C
Current Backhand: Feint Long III
Question: "Dear Sir.
I would like to purchase a Tackiness rubber. I dont understand the impact of sponge width on the performance. What rubber has higher spin / speed? Tackiness 2 with 1.5mm sponge or Tackiness C with 1.9mm sponge.
Many Thanks"
Answer: Generally, you get more spin with thicker sponge because the ball sinks-in and stays longer on the rubber. So if you are looking for more spin, then the combination of thicker spong (1.9mm) and spinnier top sheet will help. But if you are looking for more speed, it depends a lot on how you stroke and strike the ball. Thinner sponge will give you more control but less speed if you spin more but, it's better if you like to hit. |
