Q: How often do you coach
?
A: 6 days a week, sometimes 7.
Q: What area of coaching would
you consider to be a strength ?
A: A strong physical preperation, a solid theoretical
foundations, a high capacity to motivate, a very high concept
of training.
Q: If your students could
only remember one thing, what would you want it to be ?
A: The positive influence to affect their lives,
and the love I have for them and the sport.
Q: As a coach, what has
been your proudest moment thus far ?
A: Every student's victory is a pride for me.
Q: What are your feelings
on the 40mm ball?
A: I love it, I believe the sport is still very
fast sause it's more athletic now and the ball can be seen
better on video/TV.
Q: How has this affected
your approach to coaching?
A: I have not changed my philosophy because
of it. I still believe that the greatest value in table
tennis is control. Waldner is the greatest player in history
in my opinion, and his greatest asset was control.
Q: What are your feelings on
the 11-point game?
A: This is the biggest change ever made to the
game. It took me a while to adapt mainly to serve only 2
times each player. It definitely changed the strategy and
the tactical reasoning quite a bit. It is more intense,
there is more pressure.
Q: How has this affected
your approach to coaching?
A: The methodology of training has to be directed
specificallyto play 11 points. 2nd (attacking serves)and
3RD ball attack is more important than ever. the psychological
preperation of the table tennis player is crucial.
Q: What are your feelings
on the hidden service rule?
A: I have been a witness of many changes in
the sport in relation to the spin factor: color of rubber,
banning some long pips, but always always players adapt
to all these changes. When the color of the rubbers were
changed to avoid and deceiving skill, we developed and learned
other methods of reading spin. In other words, we will create
other and better methods to do deceiving serves, and how
to read those serves. It is the evolution of the sport.
Q: How
has this affected your approach to coaching ?
A: I have a very good culture of serving and
receiving. I just transmit this knowledge to the students
sothey can develop great serves.
Q: If you could change
one thing about table tennis it would be ?
A: I won't change anything, but I will do different
things to put it on the level it deserves.
Q: How did you get started
playing table tennis and how old were you?
A: I started at 15 in a recreational way, with
sandpaper raquets. At the age of 18 I was introduced to
the magic world of spin, rubbers, trajectories, etc.
Q: What hobbies do you
have?
A: I play guitar, teach bible at my church,
love to be in my home with my family.
Q: What is your favorite
movie?
A: Ben Hur, Forrest Gunp, El Cid, and many more.
Q: What is your favorite
TV show?
A: I like to watch programs with important contents,
about people, sountries, history, science, wild life
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Breaded fish with rice, Thai and Chinese
food, My wifes enchiladas.
Q: What is your favorite
sport outside of table tennis?
A: I did Tea Kwon Do for 10 years. I got a national
title on Black Belt in Bantam Weight.
