The Drop Shot

The short push or "drop" shot is a variation of the push used especially against underspin balls that bounce close to your side of the net. To execute the drop shot, just like the push, catch the ball quickly off the bounce. With your racket underneath the ball, stroke the ball lightly, using little wrist, and, unlike the push, do not follow through. The key to a successful drop shot is keeping your shot very close to the net on your opponent's side of the table. Rarely use this shot against medium or long underspin.
