2022 World Hopes Week & Challenge

Tashiya Piyadasa won a silver medal at the ITTF World Hopes Challenge held in Hennebont, France from 16 -21 January 2023.

ITTF coaching team picked 20 boys and 20 girls around the world based on their performances at the Hopes continental challenges and other ITTF tournaments. The first four days players had intense training and the last two days was the challenge.

The 1st stage of the challenge was a giant round robin with two groups of 10 players each. Six players from each group advanced for the final single elimination. Tashiya advanced for the single elimination and beat under 13 Girl’s world number 24 Farida Omar Thabet (Egypt) 3-0 in the pre-quarter finals. In the quarter finals, Tashiya beat her teammate Irene Yeoh (USA) 3-1. Most exciting match was the semifinal against under 13 world number 8, Vania Yavari from Iran.

Tashiya played extremely well and won 3-1. In the final, Tashiya had to play against under 13 world number 11, Kulapassr Vijitviriyagul from Thailand and lost 3-0 (11/911/811/6).
