Butterfly Training Tips - How To Forehand Pivot with coach Rachid

Ask The Experts: Rachid El Boubou, No. 367

Posted on Butterfly Table Tennis Question and Answer Question: When doing a forehand or backhand topspin: should our top edge of the racket or the head of the racket be leading the swing? In other words should our racket swing or swing path be in direction of the head of the racket or top edge of the racket? I have read that the optimal ball contact with racket is more towards the top edge and head of the racket, but whatever I do, almost all ball marking(my ball contact) is towards bottom edge of the racket! How should I fix this problem? Answer:   image004 This Ask the Experts question was answered by Rachid El Boubou. He is a Coach at Triangle TT and his response is as follows:
Hi Waheed, The right position for the forehand or backhand loop:
  1. Your knees should be bent a little and your back should not be straight up
  1. Take the ball from the highest point with the middle of the blade
  1. Move your arm with your waist forward
The following video will show how I move and how I hit the ball – https://youtu.be/tu8__3nAkmo Thank you,  Coach Rachid
