Butterfly Two-Person Teams Round Robin Tournament, Aug 14-15, 2021

(By AJ Carney)

Our Butterfly 2-Person Teams Tournament was a lot of fun. If you have never played in this type of format before, I highly recommend on attending one of our events in 2022!

We held a U3500, U4000, U4500, and Open Teams Events which all had great competition. In this format, you play a singles match, singles match, doubles match, singles match, and singles match (4th & 5th if necessary). The first team to 3 team wins will be the winner of that team tie. The key factor is this type of format is doubles. If you can win the doubles match, more often than not, your team will win the team tie.

We had stiff competition throughout each event which created a great atmosphere over the 2-day tournament. In the U3500, experienced players “Tiger” Min and Bill Milstead barely overcame the young guns, Ruijie Teo and Justin Ma, in the 5th match of the team tie.

In the U4500, top ranked juniors, Anav Gupta and Rachel Wang, crowned themselves champions defeating Moustapha Nasser and Stephanie Sun 3-0.

Team Bowmar Sports, Howard Phillips & Greg Daniels, made their way all the way to the finals of the U4000, but fell short when they faced Dhimant Bhensdadia and Avinash Sorab. Dhimant and Avinash took care of business and won 3-0 in the team tie.

Coach Gregg Robertshaw teamed up with Tony Ma in the Open Team Event found themselves in 2nd Place behind Bowmar Sports, Stephanie Sun, and top ranked junior Rachel Wang. Stephanie and Rachel played a flawless Open Teams Event dropping 0 matches in the entire event.

Our next Butterfly Tournament at Triangle Badminton and Table Tennis will be held on September 12th which you can register through omnipong.com.
