Vega Alta Open – February Table Tennis Tournament

In early February, the Vega Alta Open took place on the Puertorrican island, featuring intense matches and competitive action. Jabdiel Torres, a standout participant, shared his experience of the event.

“I participated in a team tournament in the city of Vega Alta. The tournament began with the group stage on Saturday, and the main draw was on Sunday. On Saturday, the games were quite accesibes since we played against younger players. However, Sunday’s matches were much more intense and closely contested, with many exciting rallies and tight sets.

In the round of 16, I played both a singles and a doubles match. I felt very fast and had excellent timing on the ball, winning both matches 3-0. The quarterfinals were also successful for me, with victories in both singles and doubles, although the sets were much closer.

The semifinals were tougher, with opponents who had previously given me a hard time. I managed to win both my singles (3-1) and doubles (3-1), helping our team secure a 3-1 series victory.

In the finals, we faced a very strong team. The hall was quite hot, and I initially felt exhausted. I lost the first set and was trailing in the second, as I lost some focus early in the match. However, I regained my concentration and went on to win the match 3-1. In the end, our team claimed the series 3-0, with great performances from my teammates as well.”

The Vega Alta Open, Division A ,was a memorable and exciting event, showcasing impressive skills and determination from all players, especially Jabdiel Torres, who played a pivotal role in securing his team’s victory.
