Lily Wins Again in Singapore

Posted on

(by Steve Hopkins)

USA’s Lily Zhang defeated Lee Eunhye of Korea this morning 3-0.  That’s two consecutive 3-0 wins for Zhang as she reached the Round of 16 at the Singapore Smash.  In her 6 games, opponents have only reached 7 two times (and in the other four games, opponents scored 5 or fewer points).

Lily is on a roll, and she’ll need for that to continue to reach the Quarterfinals as her next opponent is World No. 5 Hina Hayata – the top ranked non-Chinese player in the World.   The two have faced each other three times in the past, and Hayata has won all three of those matches.  The Singapore Smash has hosted a number of major upsets in the past – all eyes will be on this match on Thursday.

Lots of action on tap this week with Finals scheduled for next weekend.
