Posted on

(by: Edgardo Vázquez /Puerto Rico National Coach )

From March 26 to 29, 2025, the Puerto Rican Table Tennis Federation successfully organized the WTT Youth Contender Humacao at the Marcelo Trujillo Panisse Coliseum. This event marked a milestone in the history of table tennis in the region, as it was the first time a World Table Tennis (WTT) competition was held in Central America and the Caribbean.

The tournament brought together more than 114 participants from around the world, with athletes from Antigua & Barbuda, Australia, Chinese Taipei, Cuba, Spain, India, Puerto Rico, and the United States. The diversity of participating countries highlighted the event’s global reach and gave players the opportunity to compete against high-level international opponents.

The main objective of this event was to foster the development of youth and young players, allowing emerging talent from Puerto Rico and the region to gain experience on a world-class stage. The participation of young Puerto Rican talents in an official WTT competition not only strengthens their sporting growth but also elevates the level of table tennis on the island and throughout the region.

Butterfly America played a fundamental role in the success of the event, providing the highest-quality equipment to ensure the best performance of the players. Its commitment to the development of table tennis in Puerto Rico and internationally has been key to the realization of this type of event, reaffirming its position as an essential ally in the growth of the sport.

The holding of this tournament in Puerto Rico reaffirms the commitment of the Puerto Rican Table Tennis Federation and its allies, such as Butterfly America, to the growth of the sport and to creating opportunities for players on their path to international excellence. Without a doubt, the WTT Youth Contender Humacao 2025 has set a precedent for future competitions and has consolidated Puerto Rico as a key venue for the development of youth table tennis.
