WAB Club Feature: California Table Tennis

(by Steve Hopkins)

Located in Rosemead in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley and just outside of Los Angeles, is a unique, full-time table tennis facility.  California Table Tennis offers 16 Butterfly tables, professional rubber flooring, and some of the best playing conditions available in the United States.  The club has 200 active members of all ages with events and coaching available to players from age 4 to age 80.

The club features a number of well-know coaches led by Gao Jun – one of the most accomplished players in US history including a stint as the US Women’s National Coach, a 9-time US Women’s Champion, and a 4-time Olympian.  (View Gao Jun’s USATT Hall of Fame Profile here).  Coach Cherry Zhao and Coach Tang Liying each have impressive resumes of their own.

With so many players, coaches, and elite athletes training at one facility, the club is busy during weekends as well as weekday evenings.  Junior players have individual lessons during the week and group lessons on the weekends.  Senior players take advantage of times in the mornings.  There are frequent visits by international teams and some of club members are up and coming elite players: including Erica Wu, Grace Yang, and Rachel Yang.

Whether you’re looking to learn for fun or wish to play professionally, California Table Tennis has the resources to help you achieve your goals. Come visit and see for yourself.
