My Experience in Europe

Posted on

(by Arantxa Cossio Aceves)

Since I was little, I liked the idea of training and playing in a European league. I always considered it to be a place where the sport was much more developed, and I thought it was a good opportunity to continue improving both professionally and personally. I had the chance to accomplish this dream in right after I turned 18, on August of 2022 when the first division team SU Sparkasse Kufstein in Austria invited me to be part of their team, I would have the opportunity to compete against high level players such as Sofia Polcanova, Suthasini Sawettabut, Karoline Misheck, among others; I immediately accepted the offer, even though that meant spending several months away from Mexico.

The first month I was training at a high-performance centre in Germany, there were players from many countries, we had 2 coaches who oversaw the practices, and sometimes Werner Schlagger visited us and helped us make adjustments to our game, gave us tactical advice and spent time with us. The second month I was in Europe I had to move to another training centre in Linz, Austria, where there were mostly women from the Linz team who played in the same division as me, all of them were members of their national team and had a very high level, a German coach and a Hungarian coach who would direct all the practices. I lived with one of my teammates, we would cook, wash our clothes, shop together, clean the apartment, and when we were free, we would sightsee a little. This was a tough but rewarding experience, since I had to fully take charge of myself while managing to train 6 hours a day, but I truly enjoyed it because apart from training at a high level, I would finally compete in WTT Events, which helped my confidence in my game and allowed me to become more independent as a person and as a player.

Currently, I play in Austria, training at the high performance centre in Linz, taking advantage of every opportunity I have  to compete internationally and continue representing my country and my sponsors in the best way I can.
