Portugal Junior and Cadet Open – 3 Bronze Medals for Canada

The City of Vilanova de Gaia hosted the 2016 Portugal Junior and Cadet Open. The tournament started on Wednesday April 27th and finished on Sunday May 1st. Two Canadian National Junior Players, Terence Yeung and Alexander Bu, participated in this event.

Coming home with 3 Bronze Medals is Alexander Bu. In the Cadet Boys Singles event it was a thriller in the Semi Finals, loosing by 3 points against the later winner Takeru Kashiwa from Japan. Together with his Canadian Team mate they won a Bronze Medal in the Cadet Boys Double and the Cadet Boys Team event. Congratulations to both players for such a successful tournament.

This was Terence’s first International Tournament outside Canada. Julietta Yueng (Terence’s Mom) had some comments about this successful tournament. “He had a great support from his team mate Alex. It was very important that Terence contributed to the wins they had as a team. An important part of this experience is to identify areas that need improvement and to gain match experience with players that have different styles.”

Adding to that, Alex’s father and coach mentioned “Yes, third place is as his ranking order predicted. He played very well. He almost took down the first seed in the semi final match. Now we are off to Spain.”

Their next tournament will be right after the Portugal Open in Platja d’Aro, Spain.
