Puerto Rico Open Teams: 888 is the Winning Combination

(by Steve Hopkins)

Action started on Friday in San Juan at the 2024 Butterfly Puerto Rico Open Teams with nearly 100 teams, but by this morning the Pro Division was down to the top 8 teams.  Team 888 TTC topped Mile High TT Academy 3-0.  Sweden Team and Universal battled to the last match as Sweden Team eked out a narrow victory.  Puerto Rico Team advanced with a 3-1 win over Overrated Scrubs.  And LYTTC Hitters took the final Semifinal spot by topping Cooperativa Naguabena 3-2 in the last Quarterfinal.

In this afternoon’s first Semifinal, it was 888 TTC defeating Sweden Team 3-2.  Yubeen Han won both of his matches, and Nandan Naresh added the third point.  Sweden Team’s Elliot Lundqvist lost both of his matches 2-3 (and Nandan Naresh lost 2-3 to Charlie Carlsson) as the two teams were only separated by a few points.  Puerto Rico Team jumped out to an early lead over LYTTC Hitters with both Jabdiel Torres and Steven Moreno winning 3-0.  Dean Shu fought back with a 3-2 win over Gabriel Perez, but Jabdiel Torres closed the door with his 3-1 win over Issac Vila.  This set up a Final between Puerto Rico Team and 888 TTC.

In the Final, Yubeen Han was too much for Jabdiel Torres as 888 jumped out to the early lead.  Steven Moreno then pulled off the comeback upset of Nandan Naresh to even up the score.  Tyrese Knight then defeated Gabriel Perez to put 888 up again.  And Nandan Naresh closed the door with a 3-2 win over Jabdiel Torres.  “888” is the winning number in Puerto Rico.  888 TTC wins the Final 3-1.
