USA Starts/Ends Day 1 with Wins

Kanak Jha played one of the first three matches on the first morning in Paris, logging the first win for TeamUSA with his 4-0 win over Vladislav Ursu of Moldova in the Preliminary Round. Jha won 11-5, 11-6, 11-5, and 11-3 in a dominating performance and will next face Cho Daesseong in the Round of 64.

Amy Wang played her first match of the Games in the afternoon.  Her Round of 64 win was a 4-0 win over Priscilla Tommy of Vanuatu.  Wang was in control from the start, winning 11-7, 11-8, 11-9, and 11-5.

Puerto Rico’s Adriana Diaz also played today, a 4-0 win over Izabela Lupulesku of Serbia.  Other well-known women who advanced included Elizabeta Samara (in a tight 4-3 match with Solomiya Brateyko), Britt Eerland of the Netherlands, France’s Prithika Pavade, and Georgina Pota.  Men’s Singles also saw wins from Truls Moregard, Noshad Alamiyan, Dimitrij Ovtcharov, and Kirill Gerassimenko.

Kanak Jha will face Cho Daeseong (Round of 64) in early action (at 4am Eastern Time).  USA’s Lily Zhang will have her first match tomorrow at 2p as she plays Mariana Sahakian.  Other regional players competing tomorrow include Canada’s Eugene Wang will face Shunsuke Togami at 6:15a.  Puerto Rico’s Daniel Gonzales faces off against Jang Woojin at 7am.  Canada’s Mo Zhang will face Paulina Vega of Chile and Puerto Rico’s Brian Afanador will also face Lin Yun-Ju at 2p.
