Puerto Rico Shines On The World Junior Stage In Sweden

(By: Edgardo Vázquez/National Youth and Adult Coach)

The 2024 World Junior Table Tennis Championships, held in Sweden, marked an unforgettable chapter for our Puerto Rican delegation. This prestigious tournament brought together the best youth talents in the world, and our young athletes not only represented our island with pride, but also demonstrated that hard work, dedication and commitment can lead us to compete at the highest level.

From the first day, the atmosphere was charged with emotions and vibrant energy. Each match was an opportunity to learn, grow and demonstrate the quality of Puerto Rican table tennis. Our players faced high-level opponents with courage and determination, showing that they are ready for great challenges and that the future of table tennis on our island is bright.

Beyond the results, this experience served to strengthen the character, discipline and competitive spirit of our athletes. Sweden was a place of learning and connection, not only with other world-class players, but also with coaches, technical teams and fans of the sport who enriched our experience.

We could not have gotten this far without the unconditional support of Butterfly America, which has been an essential ally for the development of table tennis in Puerto Rico. Their support allows us to dream big and compete under the best possible conditions. I want to express my deepest gratitude to Butterfly and, in particular, to Bowie Martin Jr., for believing in our vision and in the potential of our young people.

I also want to thank the Puerto Rican Table Tennis Federation, under the leadership of its president Iván Santos and the invaluable support of Leticia Castaldo, for their tireless efforts in favor of the development of the sport on our island, mentioned Edgardo Vázquez, Puertorican National Youth and Adult Coach.

This experience at the World Junior Championship in Sweden not only reaffirms our passion for table tennis, but inspires us to continue working harder to achieve new goals. Our young people are building a legacy that, with the support of allies like Butterfly, will continue to grow and raise the name of Puerto Rico.

Thanks to all who make this possible, and we’re going for more on this exciting path!
