Despite Strong Efforts 4th Place for North America at World Cadets

They gave their best efforts but it was just shy of a medal finish for both the Cadet Boys and Cadet Girls teams representing North America at the World Cadet Challenge.

In the semifinal it was a tight 5 match loss for the boys team against the host team of China. Victor Liu was the star performer of the match, winning both of his 2 encounters 3-1 and 3-2 to give the team a fighting chance in the match. Unfortunately Europe proved too strong in the bronze medal playoff taking the first 3 matches in a row to win 3-0.

The girls semifinal, also against the host nation saw Crystal Wang lead out with a strong 3-0 victory to give North America the first point. The second match proved crucial, going all the way to five sets, an immense effort but Amy Wang wasn’t able to close out the last game. From there China took a 3-1 win to advance to the finals and North America went into the bronze medal playoff.

The 3-4th match playoff saw Crystal Wang sitting out and put the pressure on Amy Wang to hold the team together. She did so by securing both of her matches 3-1 to give the team 2 points against Europe. Ivy Liao and Isabelle Xiong were unable to gain a point despite fighting hard for the team, the girls ended in 4th position.

In the Boys Hopes Team Len Yang secured his match in the 3rd position 3-1 in order to help his team on their way to a full length 3-2 win over team Oceania.

Some great performances by our players and good displays of team spirit!
