Barry Dattel

Our deepest condolences to LYTTC family

BY MATT HETHERINGTON

The LYTTC family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Barry Dattel. Barry was special to us in so many ways and had a positive impact on many lives. He was a supportive and caring husband, a loving father, a patient and sharing coach and a mentor and an amazing friend.

For the people who didn’t know Barry well, he could come across as a slightly intimidating and authoritative figure, but to those who knew him he was a soft and generous character. This is a huge loss for our family but also for the club and the sport of table tennis.

Barry will be remembered for his undying passion and competitive spirit and a life-long labor of love working to promote table tennis. He was deeply invested in supporting young players and teaching them not only table tennis skills but nurturing good morals and personal character. His tireless work saw him spending so much time building the club and its training programs to support the LYTTC family dream of developing table tennis and sharing the love for the game, that which has resounded among his family members.

For me, Barry was a huge supporting force when I moved to the USA. At times I labeled him my American Dad. From all the times we practiced together, competed together, saw movies and made late night trips to the Diner. He was a guiding mentor and I will miss him so very much.

Barry’s legacy and love for the sport will live on through his family and the LYTTC. May we always strive to develop the sport and compete to our very best, as Barry showed us to.

Rest in Peace Barry.
