Ask The Experts: Min Kim No. 309 Butterfly Table Tennis Question and Answer Question: Hi coach, how r u? I know in this modern era, a lot of player will tend to be a looper rather than a hitter. I also tried to be a looper, but it didn’t fit me very well because I don’t have a good athleticsm. I prefer to be a hitter who stand close to table. My playing style is hit the topspin/no spin ball from my opponent, but when i receive underspin ball I prefer to do a loop kill. Can you suggest any Butterfly equipment (blade and rubber) that fit with my playing style? I usually play with Inverted rubber in both sides, but it’s OK for me to try pimples-out rubber Thank you. This Ask the Experts question was answered by Min Kim. She is the coach at MK Georgia Table Tennis in Duluth, Georgia. Coach Kim’s response is below:
Hi Ryan,

I would recommend you try the Lin Gaoyuan ALC or Viscaria blade with Tenergy 64 1.9 or Dignics 64 1.9 on your forehand and Impartial XB 1.7 on your backhand.

The Lin Gaoyuan ALC and Viscaria are great for attacking close to mid distance from the table and a perfect balance of control. The Tenergy 64 is a rubber that comes with the feeling of wrapping/holding a ball and the ability to send a fast ball around also the Dignics 64 is an upgraded of Tenergy 64.
The Impartial XB a high tension pips-out rubber poised between passive and aggressive play and  increased speed and power. The first time you use a backhand pip-out rubber, control can be difficult.
So if you take lessons from the coach at your club, your skills will improve faster.
Best wishes,
Min Kim
