Butterfly Table Tennis Question and Answer

Question:

Hi Brian, Thanks for the wonderful forehand top spin video on you tube. My game has improved greatly ever since I started watching your videos. I am a beginner to intermediate level club player. I am left handed. My forehand drives are powerful but I don’t have good control. I want to develop an all round playing style, that is, offensive and speedy when required with an ability to generate good top spin, and also have the ability to play shots that require greater control such as blocks, pushes, and chops. Can you please recommend a good blade and rubber combination? Would also appreciate it if you can give any advice on the thickness of the rubber that I must choose. I currently play with a donic waldner ultra senso carbon with yasaka Mark V rubbers.

Answer:

Hi Uday,

Thanks for your email, I appreciate you taking the time.

Based on your feedback about your game I would make a suggestion to upgrade your rubber to Tenergy 80 FX.

You want to play an all-around game with the focus on control. The Tenergy 80 FX gives the most stable landing spot which in the center of the table, so you will find that the shots you play land on the table more consistently. The FX in the Tenergy 80 stands for more flexible sponge, and this will give you the added touch that you need on shots that require or delicate contact on the table.

The blade I would suggest that try is the Viscaria Super ALC, which will give you the solid contact with a huge sweet spot so that all your attack shots feel good.

I hope this helps, and good luck with your training and improvement
