Ask The Experts: Yangyang Jia, No. 281 Butterfly Table Tennis Question and Answer

Question:

Hi Yang yang, I play with a modern pimple in style, looping from both sides. Open up with flick or loop or short push (50/50 of the time) I am 184cm, a bit tall, and usually take a half step back to the mid distance. I’m found zjk szlc is a bit too stiff, the ball is not staying long enough on the blade, thus, it’s easy to loop to the net, or if I purposely pull up a bit, then it goes out. Therefore I found it less forgiving. Also, the arc is a bit low. However, I like the speed of the blade. Backhand is fine. I think you used the Mizutani zlc with Hurricane on forehand before. I also like the limba feel. I wonder what is that set up like vs. my current set up? Or would you recommend zjk zlc, viscaria or zjk alc ? These are also in my consideration. Thank you a lot !

Your Ask the Experts question was answered by Yangyang Jia. Coach Jia is a table tennis coach on YouTube and her response is as follows:

Hi Wen Jun  Thanks for reaching out to us. We will always be here and help you with your table tennis questions.  Zhang Jike Super ZLC is a fast and powerful blade, it generates low arc in order to help you achieve the speed. On the other hand, because of the low arc, It would be hard for you to generate spin and get the ball over the net when you loop a heavy underspin ball.  I use Mizutani ZLC with Dignics 05 on both sides right now. I did use Hurricane 3 province on my forehand before, it does bring me a lot of spin feeling, but I found it really hard to generate speed and power. So, I realized that Hurricane 3 is not the one for me, then I switched to Dignics 05. It has all features in one: power, spin, speed and control. But if you want to put Dignics 05 on forehand, you have to be aware that it gives a great amount of power, so it would be difficult to block your opponent’s powerful attack or spinny loop.  Your set with Zhang Jike Super ZLC, Hurricane and Dignics 05 is pretty advanced and reasonable. If you want to change I would recommend you to try Mizutani ZLC or Mizutani Super ZLC. Both of those two blades will help you generate high arc and easy for you to loop the heavy underspin ball.  Good luck with your table tennis. Please let us know if this helps you.  Thanks,  Yangyang
