Butterfly Table Tennis Question and Answer

    Question:

I’m looking to change my forehand rubber to butterfly but am not sure which tenergy i should pick. I would like a rubber similar to my current one (gold arc 8). I have done this before and i was recommend tenergy 64. However, both my coach and friends have recommended tenergy 05.

I am an intermediate player and my forehand plays a lot of aggressive top spin shots and smashes. However i would like for my forehand rubber to also be able to serve well and apply heavy backspin on the ball, having good placement is also important.

Can you recommend me a rubber that is suitable for me? Thank you so much!

This question was answered by Min Kim. She is the coach at MK Georgia Table Tennis in Duluth, Georgia. Coach Kim’s response is below:

    Hi Alicia,

It is very important to choose rubber as per the player’s playing style.

Since you look like an aggressive top spin player, I recommend Tenergy 05 as it enables a full range of top spin play at or away from the table. However, if you like to play at mid distance, Tenergy 64, the fastest of the Tenergy rubbers is recommended. It offers speedy smashes and long drive attacks.

Many professional players use Tenergy 05 on their forehand and Tenergy 64 on their backhand.

    Thanks and Happy New Year!

    Coach Kim
