First titles decided in Spain

Sweden’s Emelie Endre and David Olsson alongside Puerto Rico’s Shaquille Rivera won the first titles to be decided at the Spanish Junior Para Open in El Prat de Llobregat on Wednesday 7th June.

Competing in group organised events, all three remained unbeaten to secure gold.

Emelie Endre emerged successful in Women’s Singles Class 6-7 finishing ahead of compatriot, Smilia Sand and Norway’s Merethe Tveiten.

Likewise in Men’s Singles Class 5, David Olsson concluded matters in top spot with Great Britain’s Daniel Bullen in second place, pursued by the Thai duo of Teeradech Klangmanee and Karnon Sayjan.

“It has been a good event for me getting the silver. Overall it was a good day and I’m looking forward to the start of the senior tournament on Friday.” Daniel Bullen

Success for Europe, not to be outdone, in Men’s Singles Class 9, Shaquille Rivera flew the flag for the Caribbean. He secured top spot ahead of Great Britain’s Craig Allen, Kuwait’s Ali Alsanea and Japan’s Takumi Tsujimura.

“After losing a tough first match to Shaquille Rivera I managed to pull through mentally and win both of my last two matches. I played well so I’m feeling good for the senior tournament.” Craig Allen

Success for Merethe Tveiten, David Olsson, Shaquille Rivera; in Men’s Singles Class 2-3, Jensen Van Emburgh is assured of top place even though he still has one match to play. An event also organised on a group basis, of the five players, he is the only one unbeaten; each of the remaining four has only one win to their credit.

Meanwhile, in Men’s Singles Class 6-7 where there are two groups, first and second in each group advancing to the semi-finals, Great Britain’s Alexander Bland and Ireland’s Conor O’Callaghan secured first positions with the respective second places being gained by Ari Arratia of the United States and Great Britain’s Conor McAdam.
