How to Replace the Butterfly Rubber Sheets on Your Butterfly Blade

Peel off the old rubber slowly from the side.  You may need to remove edge tape first.

Remove any excess residue of glue from the blade’s surface.  One tip is using a rubber chip which can be cut from an old sheet of rubber.

Per current ITTF and USATT rules, VOC-free glue is required.  We recommend Butterfly Free Chack or Free Chack II as a water based adhesive.  Another option is the Butterfly Chack Sheet, a transparent glue sheet.

Add about a coin size worth of chack to the bottom of your replacement rubber (on the sponge side).  Spread the chack evenly – one method is to use a Butterfly clip sponge which is designed for this purpose.  Leave the rubber to dry, and repeat the process with the blade.  Add a coin size of chack to the clean surface of the wood, and spread evenly.  Let both surfaces dry for at least 10 minutes.

Place the bottom edge of the rubber just above the handle and roll the rubber away from the handle adhering it evenly and not allowing air between the rubber and the surface of the blade.  Apply some pressure to ensure that the blade and the rubber have adhered to each other.  Cut carefully around the blade removing the excess rubber.  Apply edge tape, and you are now ready for your next match.
