Congratulations Victor Liu, 3 Gold Medals at Nikon 2015 Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open!

Gold in Toronto, Victor Liu Adds to Collection, Partners Xu Yingbin to Top Prize

August 6, 2015 – Winner of the Cadet Boys’ Singles title at the Butterfly 2015 Canadian Junior and Cadet Open in Markham, Toronto in mid-May; Victor Liu of the United States added to his list of titles by partnering China’s Xu Yingbin to gold in the Cadet Boys’ Team event at the Nikon 2015 Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open on Thursday August 6th.

At the final hurdle, the duo accounted for the Chinese Taipei partnership of Huang Yan-Cheng and Feng Yi-Hsin by three matches to one to claim the top prize

Xi Xingbin beat both Huang Yan-Cheng (12-10, 11-9, 11-5) and Feng Yi-Hsin (11-5, 9-11, 11-7, 11-5); while in the second match of the fixture, Victor Liu also accounted for Feng Yi-Hsin (11-6, 13-11, 11-8).

The one contest to elude the grasp of the champions’ elect came in the doubles when Feng Yi-Hsin and Huang Yan-Cheng recorded a close full distance five games victory (7-11, 12-10, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9).

Earlier Rounds
Earlier at the quarter-final stage of proceedings, Xu Yingbin and Victor Liu had beaten the Japanese duo of Takeru Kashiwa and Yu Kayama by three matches to nil; the same score-line as in their penultimate round clash against the Hong Kong ‘C’ Team duo of Yiu Kwan To and Tsang Tsz Tsun.

Meanwhile in the opposite half of the draw, at the quarter-final stage Feng Yi-Hsin and Yan-Cheng had beaten the Thailand duo of Yanapomg Panagitgun and Tananan Tantakool by three matches to two, prior to recording a three-nil semi-final success in opposition to Malaysia’s Chin Wen Jie and Choong Javen.

Top Place for Chinese Taipei
Second place for Chinese Taipei in the Cadet Boys’ Team event; in the counterpart Cadet Girls’ Team competition, it was gold.

Fang Sih-Han and Tsai Yu-Chin accounted for the Hong Kong ‘A’ Team duo of Lee Ka Yee and Wong Chin Yau by three matches to one in the final; the contest progressing in a very similar vein to the Cadet Boys’ Team gold medal contest.

Impressively, Fang Sih-Han accounted for Wong Chin Yau (9-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-4) and Lee Ka Yee (11-9, 11-9, 11-9), with Tsai Yu-Chin also overcoming Lee Ka Yee (11-7, 11-8, 11-7).

The one errant contest was the doubles won by Lee Ka Yee and Wong Chin Yau in four games (7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-8).

Latter Stages
Earlier at the quarterfinal stage, Fang Sih-Han and Tsai Yu-Chin had overcome the Hong Kong ‘C’ Team duo of Desiree Hung and An-Yeung Mei Yin by three matches to nil, before recording a three-two win over Japanese outfit for whom Miyu Nagasaki and Yuka Minagawa played in the singles with Maki Shiomi joining forces with Yuka Minagawa for the doubles.

Individual Events
The Cadet Boys’ Team and Cadet Girls’ Team events over, attention now turns to the individual events, which commence on Friday August 7th.
